Home/Services/EV Charge Point Installation

EV Charge Point Installation in West Sussex.

Domestic and commercial EV charger installs. Type 2 sockets, tethered or untethered, OZEV grant work where eligible.

Home and workplace EV charger installation across West Sussex. We are NICEIC approved electricians, OZEV approved installer base, and competent to install Type 2 sockets, tethered units and commercial AC and DC charge points. Most domestic installs are completed in half a day with full bonded earthing, dedicated 32A circuit from the consumer unit, weatherproof socket or unit on an external wall, and certified handover.

Domestic charge point installs

Standard install: dedicated 32A radial circuit from the consumer unit (or sub-board where required), weatherproof Type 2 wall unit on an external wall (typically next to the parking spot or garage), bonded earth (TT or TN-S depending on supply type), RCBO protection (Type B for compliance with EV charging requirements), tethered or untethered. We use Hypervolt, Project EV, Sync EV or Wallbox depending on your preference and feature set. Half-day install. OZEV EVHS grant eligible where applicable (currently retained for flat owners and those without driveways).

Earthing, RCBO Type B and the supply check

EV charging draws sustained high current and the supply earthing matters. PME (TN-C-S) supplies need an earth electrode (TT) or PEN-fault detection (some chargers have this built in) to comply with current Regs. RCBO must be Type B (not Type A or AC) for EV circuits. We do this as standard on every install and certify the supply earthing arrangement at handover.

Commercial and workplace chargers

Multi-bay workplace installs, commercial AC chargers (7 to 22kW), and DC fast chargers up to 50kW for commercial premises. Includes load survey, DNO notification (G98 or G99 depending on system size), three-phase supply upgrade where needed, dedicated commercial RCBO protection, payment system integration (OCPP-compliant), and signage.

OZEV grants and what is currently available

OZEV EVHS (Home Charge Scheme) is no longer available to most homeowners (closed March 2022) but is retained for renters and flat dwellers without dedicated parking. Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grants up to £350 per socket for SMEs are still available. We confirm eligibility before quote and handle the OZEV paperwork where applicable.

Frequently asked.

How long does a home install take?+

Typical install is half a day (3 to 5 hours) including the dedicated circuit, the unit, the bonded earthing, the certificate and a brief handover.

Will my fuse board take the load?+

If you have spare ways and a modern consumer unit, yes, we just add a dedicated 32A RCBO. If your fuse board is full or older, we may need to add a sub-board or upgrade the consumer unit at the same time. Surveyed before quote so the price is fixed.

Tethered or untethered, which is better?+

Tethered (cable permanently attached to the unit) is convenient day-to-day. Untethered (Type 2 socket only, you bring your own cable) is more future-proof if you change cars or upgrade the cable spec. Both cost similar, choice is yours.

Do I need a smart charger?+

Yes, all new domestic charge points must be smart-compliant since June 2022 (Smart Charge Point Regulations). All units we install are OZEV-approved smart chargers with default off-peak charging windows.

Can I get an EV charger if I have solar PV?+

Yes, and most modern chargers integrate with solar (charge from excess solar generation rather than from the grid). We coordinate with your solar inverter for the integration if you have one.
